The Multipurpose Indian Language Solution

C-DAC has, over the years consistently worked on providing Indian language support in Information Technology through its Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technology (GIST). This support has been developed on multiple fronts, and is manifest in the introduction of a range of world-class products to meet the needs of this niche segment.

Since, development in the specialized area of language technology demands the use of various language scripts and fonts, the Indian Standard Font Code (ISFOC) was established in 1993. Carrying this dream forward, C-DAC evolved - ISM (ISFOC Script Manager) in 1994. Over the years, different versions of ISM - from version 1.0 to version 3.04 were developed. ISM has essentially been a software, which provides an extremely reliable, Indian language interface to existing third party software packages.

The latest in the series - ISM2000 has descended from its humble predecessor ISM, to emerge as the most versatile software to handle the much-felt need of using Indian languages on a PC. This is a family of software that takes care of most Indian language applications

ISM2000 incorporates some very intuitive Indian language features, such as font /clipart previewer, figures to words conversion, date and time formatting.

ISM2000 supports features such as Mail merge, Indian language spell checking and Administrative language dictionaries in MS Word. It also allows the smooth transition of data from a different format into its own format. ISM2000 handles Indian language databases with utmost ease- converting them from the previous version without difficulty. ISM 2000 supports more keyboard layouts than ever before, with the flexibility of configuring one’s own keyboard layout. Added to it, one more step in interactivity of the floating keyboard layout, which allows use of a mouse to key in the data.

It is now possible to develop applications in any Indian language using the PC. Using ISM2000, the Internet does not remain an untouched domain, as it is available with a special set of fonts called webfonts for Windows based browsers.
